Employees Reveal 11 Wawa Secrets That Enhance the Experience

Josh and Ollie spend a good deal of time trying to figure out how orders work at a Wawa store.

Beyond its customized menu, there are 11 Wawa secrets that are also part of the Wawa experience, writes Charlotte Hilton Andersen for Reader’s Digest. Here are some of the best.

1. There’s a secret menu you can access from a tiny goose icon on the touchscreen.

2. Fountain drink lids are color-coded to keep you from grabbing the wrong size lid.

3. Wawa doesn’t actually make most of its food but uses brands like Stouffer’s, Perdue, Tyson, and soups from Campbell’s.

4. The self-checkouts don’t take cash.

5. The rewards card is actually worth it. You can rack up points quickly, redeemable for free stuff.

6. Split up large catering orders for faster service into two or three items each. Employees can read short orders much faster on the screen.

7.  Order in person for more accuracy and better service, as the mobile apps tend to glitch.

9. Less is more when it comes to toppings because they are less likely to fall off.

10. The parking lot has rules (and they actually help).

“Most Wawa parking lots have ‘One Way’ signs,” says a lead customer-service associate. “If more customers realized this, the traffic in a parking lot would be much better.”
