Brown Real Estate Buys Shoppes at Wissinoming in Northeast Philadelphia for $30.8 Million

Brown Real Estate has acquired the Northeast Philadelphia shopping center, Shoppes at Wissinoming, with a ShopRite supermarket, for $30.8 million.

A Brown Real Estate affiliate recently paid $30.8 million for the Shoppes at Wissinoming, a Northeast Philadelphia shopping center with a ShopRite supermarket, writes Paul Schwedelson for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The grocery store is one of 12 in Greater Philadelphia that are operated by the family-owned Brown’s Super Stores. This latest purchase gives the Brown family ownership of both the ShopRite and the retail property it anchors. The family is also the owner of real estate for its Cheltenham and Roxborough stores.

The 98,000-square-foot shopping center is nearly fully leased, with a 98 percent occupancy that includes tenants such as Super Wawa, Popeyes, and an AT&T store.

The Brown family began managing ShopRite locations in the region in 1988. Jeff Brown, CEO of Brown’s Super Stores, ran an unsuccessful campaign for mayor of Philadelphia in 2023. In addition, last year the family acquired Di Bruno Bros., a local grocery brand that is celebrated for its premium Italian imports, specialty cheeses, and gourmet gift boxes.

The Shoppes at Wissinoming, featuring a 68,000-square-foot grocery store and an 8,000-square-foot retail space on 11.3 acres, attracted over ten offers from prospective buyers.
