Blackbird Health, the leading regional pediatric mental health provider of comprehensive virtual and in-person services, has expanded its footprint in southeastern Pennsylvania with the opening of a new in-person clinic in Media. This new clinic adds another access point for children and teens seeking timely mental health support in the region.
The clinic, Blackbird Health’s first in Delaware County, is located at 1023 East Baltimore Pike and recently began welcoming patients through virtual intake appointments and in-office treatment sessions. The expansion comes at a time when parents across the region continue to face long waitlists and limited access to behavioral health providers. Nationally, families often wait more than seven weeks for an initial appointment. Blackbird Health’s model cuts that down dramatically.
A Special Whole-Child Approach
Blackbird Health’s approach looks at the whole child — how their brain, body, and behavior interact — to fully understand their challenges and treat the cause, not just the symptoms. The goal is to understand all factors shaping a child’s mental and emotional well-being, from school stress to family dynamics to underlying developmental conditions. The Media clinic will serve as a physical extension of those services, offering diagnostic evaluations, therapy, psychiatry, and assessments for ADHD and autism.
The American Academy of Pediatrics said the need for this type of integrated care has only intensified, particularly in the years following the pandemic, and Blackbird understands the impact of this important work.
“Having a presence in Media means we can bring our comprehensive approach directly to families who need it most,” said Dr. Nicole Garber, Chief Medical Officer at Blackbird Health. “The need for pediatric mental health care has intensified, particularly post-pandemic, and we see families in this community struggling with anxiety and depression driven by high academic and social pressures. Our integrated and compassionate care begins with understanding every factor that affects a child’s well-being — so they can not only heal but thrive.”
Why Speed to Care Matters
Blackbird Health treats a wide range of conditions, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and behavioral challenges. Its streamlined, thorough intake system is central to its philosophy: shorten the time between a family’s request for help and a child’s first meeting with a clinician. Most families are seen within one to two weeks. And Blackbird patients seeking autism evaluations are seen within four to six weeks, instead of typical wait times of 18-24 months. That speed, paired with a precision-focused diagnostic process, is designed to reduce stress on families, educators, and pediatricians who often spend weeks searching for available providers and trusted specialists. Pennsylvania families also appreciate that Blackbird accepts most major commercial insurance plans, which makes its comprehensive pediatric mental health care even more accessible and convenient.
How It Works
To set up each child for success, Blackbird uses a two-step process to understand what’s causing their challenges and create the right plan forward. The first step is an up-to-90-minute New Patient Evaluation where a clinician listens, understands you or your child’s needs, and begins assessments. Blackbird looks at how their brain, body, and behavior interact to find connections that are often missed when these areas are assessed separately. If anything needs a closer look, they’ll recommend additional speech, language, motor, or autism testing. When appropriate, many families can start therapy after this visit.
The second step is the Treatment Plan Visit where Blackbird brings everything together to review the child’s diagnosis, explain what’s causing their challenges, and build a more detailed treatment plan with measurable goals and the right specialists. Any care, including therapy, that began after the first visit integrates this more complete plan.
The Media clinic gives Blackbird Health its first presence in Delaware County, where demand for child and teen mental health support for anxiety and depression remains high. With additional Blackbird locations in Chester County (Exton), Montgomery County (Fort Washington and King of Prussia), Bucks County (Langhorne and Doylestown), and Allentown, the company hopes to close gaps in care for families who have been waiting too long for help.
