HBO’s Task Receives Multi-Million Dollar Pennsylvania Tax Credit for Season Two Filming

Thanks to a $49.8 million tax credit, Task season two is set to create over 3,000 new jobs as it films in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Filming for season two of HBO’s Task is set to return to Southeastern Pennsylvania thanks to a multi-million dollar tax credit from the state, writes Cory Sharber for WHYY.

The state announced plans to grant a $49.8 million credit to the production of the series’ second season. The grant serves as the largest tax credit to a single Hollywood production in the Pennsylvania history.

An acclaimed drama series, Task began airing this fall on HBO. The series follows Mark Ruffalo as an FBI agent investigating a series of robberies throughout the Philadelphia suburbs.

Filming for the first season took place throughout Philadelphia, Delaware County, and Chester County.

Creator Brad Ingelsby, a native of Berwyn, shared that his local roots inspire him to focus his projects on the region.

The recent grant comes as part of Pennsylvania’s Film Production Tax Grant Program. The program offers a 25 percent to 30 percent tax credit to productions that spend a minimum of 60 percent of their budget in Pennsylvania.

The investment in Task also comes as part of Governor Josh Shapiro’s goal of creating more film and television jobs across the state. The upcoming season will create 3,700 jobs and infuse $194.1 into the local economy.

About the recent credit and the upcoming season, Ingelsby said, “I’m deeply grateful that I get to tell stories about characters from this very specific part of the country while working alongside the wonderful people who call Pennsylvania home.”
