Molly Johnston, owner of Nomadic Pies in Kennett Square, believes Thanksgiving tables should feature more than just pumpkin pies, write Courtney H. Diener-Stokes and Laurel Anderson for the County Lines Magazine.
During the holiday, she always prepares three pies: maple pecan, apple, and pumpkin.
“I could never have Thanksgiving without all three,” said Johnston.
Nomadic Pies sells around 1,000 pies every Thanksgiving season, all baked at the cozy shop.
While pumpkin pie is a staple, Johnston offers several alternative desserts that are sure to earn praise from your guests.
“We make a pear cardamom pie that I absolutely adore,” she said. “You don’t see a lot of pear pies, but I positively love them.”
Other suggestions include pear raspberry, roasted apple cinnamon custard, and chocolate pies.
Johnston was around 12 when she made her first pie. She loved baking with her grandmother and one day she noticed a blackberry raspberry pie on the cover of a magazine that caught her attention.
“That pie changed my life,” she said. “After that, I was obsessed, and pie was my favorite thing to bake.”
