Across the country, many colleges and universities are grappling with enrollment declines, rising costs, and changing perceptions about the value of a degree. Yet, Immaculata University is defying those national trends and charting a path of steady growth, innovation, and renewed vitality.
In fall 2025, Immaculata welcomed its largest incoming class in school history, with nearly 400 freshmen and over 60 transfer students joining the university community. The increase is 44 percent higher than the record-setting growth in fall 2024, with transfer enrollment rising 47 percent since 2022.
Even more notably, Immaculata’s Class of 2028, who are now sophomores, was the most diverse in the university’s history, with 38 percent of students from historically underrepresented populations and 42 percent who are first-generation college students.
“This surge in enrollment reflects the responsiveness and resilience of our university,” said Christine Rhine, Immaculata’s Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions. “We’ve been intentional about meeting students where they are, and this growth confirms that our efforts are resonating with today’s learners. It’s inspiring to see so many students choosing to begin their journeys here.”
To meet rising housing demand, the university reimagined Gillet Hall, transforming it into a modern student living space for 56 residents, an investment that reflects Immaculata’s commitment to student experience and community. Meanwhile, freshman retention has reached its highest point since 2016, with 83 percent of students returning for their sophomore year.
Financially, Immaculata remains strong. The Middle States Commission on Higher Education reaffirmed the university’s accreditation in 2024, citing sound fiscal management and alignment between budgeting and mission. That same year, Fitch Ratings reaffirmed Immaculata’s BB- stable rating, recognizing consistent enrollment and responsible oversight.
Immaculata’s success stems from a forward-thinking approach to academics, affordability, and outreach. The university continues to expand programs that align with market needs, from new MBA concentrations and a doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision to innovative partnerships that give students hands-on experience and tuition support. For example, Immaculata has built alliances with regional health systems, education networks, and public safety organizations that create direct pathways to employment and career advancement.
Kristi Ringen, Immaculata’s Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, continually monitors market demand for key skills and academic programs and assesses Immaculata’s offerings against those findings. “Across the board, we know that students at the undergraduate and graduate levels want credentials, knowledge and expertise that lead to positive career outcomes,” Ringen said. “As an institution committed to launching and furthering the careers of our graduates, we understand the importance of offering the right programs to the right students at the right times and price.”
Looking ahead, Immaculata aims to reach a strategic enrollment goal of 3,000 students, supported by accessible tuition, strong student services, and a clear focus on outcomes — with 92 percent of traditional undergraduate alumni from the class of 2024 employed or pursuing further education within six months of graduation.
“The aspect of Immaculata’s mission that I believe continues to resonate most with today’s students and families is community,” stated Caia Harris ’27, an Immaculata Exercise Science major. “The Immaculata community is true to its values and ensures that every student has the perfect environment to thrive on campus and achieve their dreams. Personally, Immaculata’s community welcomed me into their family and allowed me to discover who I am and who I want to be in the future. They continue to offer this same opportunity to every student coming to Immaculata University.”
As Immaculata celebrates this era of growth, the university’s leadership and community remain united by a shared vision: to prepare ethical professionals and service-oriented leaders who will make a lasting impact, locally and beyond.
