Abrams Realty’s Plan for Exton Square Redevelopment Rejected

Abrams Realty will sue after the West Whiteland Township’s rejection of its master plan to redevelop the Exton Square Mall.

Abrams Realty & Development plans to file a lawsuit following the West Whiteland Township Board of Supervisors’ rejection of its master plan to redevelop the Exton Square Mall, writes Noah Zucker for BISNOW

“For political reasons, it looks like these guys didn’t want to approve us,” said developer Peter Abrams. “My partners and I view this as a bump in the road because our court case is so strong.”

He added that he does not expect the legal case to affect the construction timeline.

The Planning Commission approved the plan unanimously in August, despite vocal criticism from several members. The board’s rejection later was a surprise to Director of Planning and Zoning John Weller, who had expected approval even with the objections.

Now the only remaining members of the Board, following the resignation of Supervisor Jo Ann Kelton, Board Chair Rajesh Kumbhardare and Vice Chair Brian Dunn criticized several aspects of the proposal. They emphasized that they had listened to and considered community opposition to the project

“There were hundreds of emails from our residents concerning traffic conditions,” said Kumbhardare. “The density is more than what we would like there to be.”
