Dr. Richard Snyder, IBX’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, joined American Heart Association (AHA) and Spectrum Health Services leadership to unveil the new location for the Mobile Hands-Only CPR Kiosk at Spectrum Health Services in Philadelphia.
The kiosk recently moved from Maria de los Santos Health Center, where it educated nearly 1,000 people since last March. Since the kiosk launched in January 2023, it has trained more than 4,400 people.
Independence Blue Cross worked with AHA for more than a decade to remove barriers to CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) education. The kiosk, which IBX sponsors, is placed in high-volume locations around Greater Philadelphia and in community-based organizations to remove barriers to education and practice for those with an increased risk of not receiving bystander CPR. The first location was the Wells Fargo Center.
More than 350,000 Americans will experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest this year. Without immediate action, nearly 90 percent of those individuals won’t survive. A challenge is that too many people don’t feel prepared to help. In fact, 70 percent of Americans say they wouldn’t know what to do in a cardiac emergency.
Mobile Hands-Only CPR Kiosks are interactive, self-training stations designed to teach and reinforce Hands-Only CPR skills in public places such as shopping malls, airports, and community centers. Studies show that Hands-Only CPR is as effective as conventional CPR.
