New Court Filing Reveals How Much Medical Jet Crash in Northeast Philadelphia Has Cost Taxpayers

The City of Philadelphia has filed a new court document detailing how much the January 2025 Northeast Philadelphia medical jet crash has cost taxpayers.

The City of Philadelphia has filed a new court document that unveils just how much the January 2025 medical jet crash has cost taxpayers, write Ryan W. Briggs and Dylan Purcell for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

In response to an insurance provider’s complaint, Philadelphia attorneys said they are seeking to claim “no less than $2,555,897.58” for property damage and personnel costs in relation to the crash.

While City Solicitor Renee Garcia has yet to provide a detail breakdown of the costs or whether it would rise, she said it would submit that information to the court in due time.

“That accounting will include costs inclusive of emergency services personnel and equipment, infrastructure repairs, and contracted services,” she added.

The Learjet 55 crash on January 31 killed all six passengers onboard. It also killed two residents on the ground, while also causing extensive damage to nearby properties in the densely populated Northeast Philadelphia neighborhood.

Back in July, Mexican medical airline Med Jets, S.A. De C.V. filed a federal court complaint in Philadelphia announcing claims would more than exhaust its $10 million insurance policy.

The ongoing insurance case is seeking to consolidate the claims into a single case under the view of a federal judge.
