David’s Bridal CEO Kelly Cook’s story is one of gratitude, resilience, and constant learning, writes Nicole Kirichanskay for Inside Retail.
She took the helm earlier this year, helping steer one of the country’s most recognizable bridal retailers through an evolving retail landscape.
Cook first joined the King of Prussia company in 2019 as Chief Marketing Officer and quickly made her mark. Now, as CEO, her daily routine reflects her values. She starts each morning reading customer reviews, celebrating five-star moments, and learning from the rare one-star ones. Every day, she writes three thank-you notes to employees, each tucked with a $2 bill, a small gesture of appreciation.
Her advice for young entrepreneurs is direct and personal: don’t be afraid to “suck at something new.” Cook says bravery, curiosity, and surrounding yourself with people who push you forward are critical for growth.
She knows firsthand how demanding balance can be, crediting her faith, family. Cook has been married for 31 years, has five grandchildren, and a grandson.
For Cook, retail is more than sales. It’s about love, learning, and creating meaningful connections. As she puts it, ”surround yourself with people who make you better, and have fun.”
