Here are three local spots offering apple picking and other family-friendly activities perfect for a fall day outdoors.

Barnard’s OrchardKennett Square. This 4th generation apple orchard offers pick-your-own fruit throughout the year, with pay-what-you-pick apple picking beginning in mid to late September. Find over thirty varieties of apples and a wide range of additional produce at the orchard’s on-site farm market.

Highland OrchardsWest Chester. While Highland Orchards is beloved for its apple picking, this local orchard offers no shortage of fall activities in addition to other farm-fresh groceries. Shop for local produce, pantry items, and baked goods, including the fan-favorite apple cider donuts. The orchard also offers 15-minute hayrides on weekends for visitors of all ages.

Weaver’s OrchardMorgantown. In nearby Morgantown, Weaver’s Orchard offers over thirty different apple varieties. The orchard also includes a year-round farm market with local produce and bakery items. Inside the farm market, Kim’s Café offers a full espresso bar and a wide range of menu items to warm up after a chilly fall day outdoors.
