West Philly’s Quinta Brunson Talks Calculated Journey to Career Success

Quinta Brunson has won several awards and earned great success in recent years, but it's a result of many previous decisions she made leading up to now.

West Philadelphia native Quinta Brunson has enjoyed great success in recent years, but it’s a result of decades of preparation, writes Nicolas Vega for CNBC.

The creator and lead star of ABC hit show Abbott Elementary has won multiple Emmys, a Golden Globe award, and a Peabody award for work on the show.

Brunson is, in no way, surprised by her success.

“I was a very determined, knew-where-I-was-going girl,” she said during a recent appearance on Good Hang with Amy Poehler. “I don’t like to do that thing where people pretend ‘I had no idea this could happen to me.’ Like, no. I made every single move in my life so that this could happen to me.”

For the West Philly native, leaving her hometown was part of her strategy to get to where she wanted to go professionally.

She had a vision for what she wanted her life to look like and made sure to take the necessary steps toward it.

This is a process that many other successful people have taken.

According to neuroscientist and executive coach Tara Swart, tools like vision boards can help rewire a person’s brain to help them achieve their goals.

Brunson is living proof of that.
