Mayor Cherelle Parker recently unveiled a new website that allows Philadelphians to discover the potential cost of bills and resolutions introduced by City Council, writes Pat Loeb for KYW Newsradio.
According to the mayor, this feature — called “Fiscal Notes” — is commonplace in the state House of Representatives. To this end, she is glad to bring this to the city.
Parker noted that “it’s long overdue.”
The public will be able to access this information on the City website. To date, bills that have been introduced since last fall as already available for consumption.
While this new “Fiscal Notes” feature adds a new layer of transparency, the point has been made that cost will not be the determining factor as to whether a bill will become a law.
City Council President Kenyatta Johnson added that this also ensures that Council is being responsible on how it spends its taxpayer dollars.
