Homebuilder Eyes Chester County With Proposed Age-Restricted Community in Penn Township

Reading-based Berks Homes is considering entering the Chester County market with a proposed 239-unit age-restricted development.

Reading-based Berks Homes is currently considering entering the Chester County market with a proposed 239-unit age-restricted development in Penn Township, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal

The project on Corby Road includes 103 single-family homes, 128 townhouses, and eight twin units. The 55-and-over community would span 124 acres on both the north and south sides of Corby Road.

The proposal will also feature active recreation facilities, two community buildings, and 125 parking spaces. Approximately 9,400 square feet of new roadway would be added between the homes, along with a trail that runs throughout the entire development.

The Chester County Planning Commission reviewed the proposal in April and submitted a list of recommendations, including the inclusion of affordably priced units in the project.

The homebuilder is currently under contract to purchase the site.

The new community would border Ovation at Elk View, another 55-and-over active adult development.

In many Berks Homes communities, single-family houses start in the $400,000s, larger homes begin in the $600,000s, and townhomes and duplexes are typically listed in the $300,000s.
