Immaculata University Offers New Clarinet Choir for Local Clarinetists

Immaculata University launches a new Clarinet Choir with a free public concert on May 10 featuring world-renowned clarinetist Ricardo Morales.

The Immaculata University Music Department is launching the Immaculata Clarinet Choir with a kick-off concert on Saturday, May 10, at 1:00 PM in Alumnae Hall Theater. Richardo Morales, the internationally acclaimed Principal Clarinetist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, will participate in a joint performance with the choir. The concert is free and open to the public.

According to Joseph Gehring, Chair of Immaculata’s Music Department, “The impetus for the new Immaculata Clarinet Choir is to provide local clarinetists with the opportunity to come together, share their talents, and experience the rich sound of a full clarinet ensemble. I am extremely proud to launch this new ensemble with the world-renowned clarinetist Ricardo Morales, the principal clarinetist with the Philadelphia Orchestra.”

Before the concert, Morales is giving a masterclass for clarinetists, including current Immaculata music majors specializing in clarinet, music alumni from the University, and local musicians. Participants of the masterclass are required to attend a rehearsal on Saturday, May 3, from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. The masterclass registration fee is $25 for students and $50 for adults, and the registration deadline is Friday, Apr. 18.

Gehring, who will be conducting the clarinet choir, is the chair of the Immaculata University Music Department and serves as an Assistant Professor of Music, Director of Ensembles, and Music Director of the Immaculata Symphony. In addition to his role with Immaculata, he serves as the music director of the West Chester Band, a community concert band, and is the director of the Chesco Pops Orchestra. Gehring frequently directs various honor and festival bands throughout the Pennsylvania and Delaware area.
