Lincoln University has named Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, a Valley Forge Military Academy and College graduate, as a keynote speaker for the 2025 commencement ceremony, writes Chanel Hill for The Philadelphia Tribune.
Moore will also be recognized with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree.
The ceremony will take place at the International Cultural Center Lot on the university’s campus on May 4. Lincoln, located in Oxford, is the nation’s oldest degree-granting HBCU.
“We are honored to have Governor Wes Moore address our graduates at Lincoln University’s 2025 commencement ceremony,” said Lincoln President Brenda A. Allen.
Moore is a U.S. Army veteran and best-selling author. After earning his associate’s degree from Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, he received a bachelor’s degree in international relations and economics from Johns Hopkins University, where he became the school’s first Black Rhodes Scholar.
He was elected to serve as the 63rd governor of the state of Maryland two years ago. He is the state’s first African American governor as well as only the third African American elected governor in the nation’s history.
