WCU Men’s Basketball Continues Milestone Season Into NCAA Tournament

WCU Men’s Basketball made a comeback with local and regional wins that have only been achieved twice in the team’s history.

The West Chester University Men’s Basketball has continued its record-breaking season with the beginning of the NCAA Division II Tournament, writes Elijah McDow for Main Line Today.

WCU will enter the national tournament this month, after success at the regional Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

The Golden Rams’ season began on Nov. 8 with consecutive losses, with a first win on Nov. 16. The team began the PSAC East Conference later that month with wins against Slippery Rock University and Edinboro University.

The Rams’ success continued in February when the team earned the PSAC East Regular Season Championship with a 75-70 win over Millersville University—a title the team has not achieved since 2006. Now, the team is qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time since 2019.

Head coach Damien Blair has led them through their successful season by encouraging cohesion and intense training, sharing that his message has been “to play as hard as you possibly can and be as tough as you possibly can.”

Team members have also won individual awards throughout the season: senior guard and junior forward Elijah Allen and Davante Dennis were both named First Team All-Conference this year.
