Following his first year at Miami, one of the nation’s top recruits in the class of 2024, Archbishop Wood’s Jalil Bethea, will enter the transfer portal, writes Isabella DiAmore for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The No. 1 player in the state, a McDonald’s All-American, and Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year, Bethea averaged 7.1 points, 1.2 assists, and 2.1 rebounds in 31 games. He played an average of 18.9 minutes per game and started 16 times.
At Wood, the 6-foot-5 guard gained recognition for his sharp long-range shooting and a knack for scoring in bursts. He was the leading scorer of the Catholic League during his senior year, averaging 22.7 points.
During his freshman season in 2021, he contributed after coming off the bench when the Vikings won their second PCL championship in school history.
Playing for Miami, Bethea shot 36.8 percent from the field and made 30 of 92 three-pointers. Overall, the Hurricanes finished the season 7-24, with a 3-17 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The former five-star prospect was the highest-rated recruit in Miami’s program history.
