Six hours of negotiation Sunday has brokered an agreement to keep Crozer Health hospitals in Delaware County running for now, as a permanent restructuring of the health system is worked out, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.
No details were released.
The announcement came from Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday and The Foundation for Delaware County.
Crozer Chester Medical Center and Taylor Hospital were to be closed after March 14 by Prospect Medical Holdings, owners of Crozer Health. The company filed for bankruptcy in January.
The Foundation for Delaware County, a philanthropic nonprofit, was asked by state officials to use some of its $80 million in funds to prop up the health system.
The Foundation was created from the sale of the nonprofit Crozer Keystone Health System to Prospect Medical for $300 million in 2016.
Frances M. Sheehan, president of The Foundation, was hopeful the agreement would lead to a “long-term solution with a nonprofit provider.” She cautioned, however, that there are limits to how much The Foundation could do to save Crozer Health given its own obligations.
“While we cannot sustain an entire health system, we remain committed to ensuring continued access to care,” she said.
