Prospect Medical Holdings can only keep Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Taylor Hospital open through March 14 and told a bankruptcy judge Thursday it is filing a motion to close the Crozer Health hospitals, writes Harold Brubaker for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Crozer Health has been running temporarily for 30 days on $20 million provided by Pennsylvania and Delaware County.
Prospect tried to secure funding from The Foundation for Delaware County, but those talks reached an impasse Thursday morning, according to Prospect’s attorney, William Curtin.
“That really was our last option,” Curtin said.
Crozer’s financial problems made it difficult to find a new independent nonprofit to take over the health system.
Crozer Health is Delaware County’s largest health system with thousands of health-care professionals.
Delaware County has been coordinating with nearby hospitals, EMS and county stakeholders in preparation for possible closures.
Delaware County government has a dedicated webpage to keep residents up to date on the status of Prospect-owned hospitals, Residents can also call Delaware County Health Department Wellness Line at (484)-276-2100.
“We are deeply concerned about the well-being of the patients and staff at these hospitals,” said Delaware County Council Chair Monica Taylor, in a statement last month.
