Chester County Hospital in West Chester has been distinguished as one of the nation’s top-performing hospitals for cardiovascular care, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The hospital secured the fifth spot among teaching hospitals without a cardiovascular residency program in Premier’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals ranking. As part of the Penn Medicine network, this 329-bed hospital is recognized for its exceptional dedication to heart health services.

Premier Inc., a healthcare improvement company, compiles this annual ranking to highlight the best cardiovascular hospitals nationwide. They use a balanced scorecard approach based on public data. The study evaluates short-term, acute care, nonfederal U.S. hospitals that treat a wide range of cardiology patients. This includes those requiring medical management and surgical procedures.

Chester County Hospital’s inclusion in this prestigious list underscores its commitment to delivering high-quality cardiovascular care. This year, Premier assessed 925 hospitals, and top performers like Chester County Hospital demonstrated significant advantages over their peers. They recorded 25% fewer acute myocardial infarction deaths and 66% fewer coronary artery bypass grafting deaths.

The study suggests that if all hospitals operated at the level of this year’s top performers, there could be 14,000 fewer deaths due to heart disease. Additionally, hospitals would save more than $1.5 billion in inpatient costs in 2025. This highlights the substantial impact that high-performing hospitals can have on patient outcomes and healthcare costs.

Chester County Hospital’s achievement reflects its unwavering commitment to advancing cardiovascular care, setting a benchmark for excellence and contributing significantly to the Penn Medicine network’s reputation for outstanding heart health services.
