Collegeville’s Ursinus College has received a $3.2 million gift from Joan Bradley Parlee and the late Donald Parlee, strengthening its scholarship programs and academic resources, writes Ryan Mulligan for Philadelphia Business Insider.
A majority of the donation—over $2 million—will support the Parlee Center for Sciences and the Common Good, which prepares future scientists to navigate complex moral dilemmas. The center, located within Ursinus’ Innovation and Discovery Center, sponsors internships, fellowships, and summer research programs for underrepresented students in the sciences. Both Joan and Donald Parlee served on the center’s executive board.
Additionally, $1 million will establish an endowed scholarship fund, increasing financial aid opportunities for students. Ursinus President Robyn Hannigan emphasized that the donation reinforces the college’s commitment to access and affordability, ensuring students receive hands-on, real-world experience alongside their education.
The Parlees, both Ursinus alumni (Joan, Class of 1957; Donald, Class of 1955), dedicated their lives to healthcare and education. Joan served as president of Doylestown Hospital’s board of directors, while Donald, a radiologist for 43 years, founded the Doylestown Health School of Radiologic Technology.
This donation builds upon Ursinus’ recent $4 million pledge from Arlene Andrews McLean, part of a wave of philanthropic support for Philadelphia-area colleges in early 2025.
