Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Chief Brenda Bernot has announced plans to retire later this year, writes Mike Rellahan for The Daily Local News.
Bernot will officially retire on Apr. 6 after over a decade of serving the Westtown-East Goshen (WEGO) Regional Police Department.
Bernot first worked for the Pennsylvania State Police for 28 years, ranking as a captain in 2012. She holds a doctoral degree in criminal justice from PennWest California, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA.
Bernot was hired as chief of the WEGO Police Department in 2013, replacing previous chief John Dummond.
As chief of WEGO Police, Bernot became the second woman to lead a municipal police department in Chester County, commanding over 260 state troopers and civilian personnel.
In her tenure at WEGO Police, Bernot advocated for police use of de-escalation techniques and mental health awareness, and increased community building between citizens and police.
Bernot’s time at WEGO was the last chapter in a remarkable career. As the WEGO Police Commission’s press release states, Bernot’s retirement marks “the culmination of a remarkable career characterized by integrity, accountability, and an unyielding focus on community well-being.”
