The Mütter Museum and the College of Physicians of Philadelphia has named former Temple University Health System executive Larry Kaiser as its new president and CEO, writes Michaela Althouse for PhillyVoice.
“I think that the college and the museum are positioned for great days ahead, and I am delighted for the chance to lead this important work,” Kaiser said in a statement.
Kaiser is a former thoracic surgeon and joins the Mütter Museum after serving as managing director of the Philadelphia-based consulting firm, Alvarez and Marsal. This was after serving nearly a decade as the president and CEO of Temple Health. He was also the inaugural dean of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine.
Kaiser’s appointment comes more than a year after Mira Irons resigned from the position in September 2023. The Museum has been immersed in ethics-related controversy after displaying human remains, as well as how it acquired its artifacts.
After a reevaluation of its 6,500 specimens, the Museum concluded that many of them were obtained before people could legally consent to donating their bodies.
The Mütter Museum could potentially move, as it acquired a new building on Chestnut Street in 2023.
