The journey for local business owners Kieran and Kristie Robinson to open their own wine tasting room, R 5 Wines, was not always a local one, writes staff for Penn Live Patriot-News

A graduate of Downingtown High School, Kieran Robinson originally became interested in winemaking working at a Finger Lakes winery while attending Ithaca College. After graduating from college, the couple spent 1 year in France and 14 years in California working for independent winemakers.

While in California, Robinson launched Kieran Robinson Wines, with production taking place in Sonoma Valley, California.

Though their winemaking career began in California, the Robinsons dreamed of opening a tasting room and back in Pennsylvania.

“We always knew we wanted move home,” Robinson said.

After partnering with Downingtown natives Zack and Karessa Hathaway to complete the menu with food options, R 5 Wines officially opened in Downingtown in August 2021. The name is a spin on the R-5 Line, the original name for SEPTA’s Paoli-Thorndale Line.

Today, the R 5 Wines tasting room and lounge is open Thursday through Sunday and offers wine-tasting flights, small plates, and seasonal pizzas.
