Both working and retired teachers have collaborated to share books with the Malvern community through the Lending Library with Love.

A group of Malvern teachers are continuing work on their mobile library, “The Lending Library with Love,” writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc

First-grade teacher Chrissy Casey was inspired during the COVID-19 pandemic to make books more accessible to her students. Casey began the “bookmobile” project with several other teachers through fundraising with Scholastic Books to create “The Lending Library with Love.”

After purchasing a trailer and collecting over 2,000 books, the bookmobile began its neighborhood visits in July of 2020 to share books with children in the Malvern area.

With the support of community sponsors, the Lending Library soon moved from a trailer to a larger bus.

The Lending Library organizers have continued neighborhood stops ever since. The bookmobile recently made a stop at a Storytime with Santa event at the Great Valley Community Organization on Dec. 14.

The project organizers have no plans to stop this support system for their students. As retired teacher and bookmobile organizer Sally Bovell states, the group hopes to continue working “as long as we can keep the bus on the road.”
