Immaculata Launches Master of Music Education with Wellness Focus
Immaculata University is expanding its music program with the launch of a new master of Music in Music Education (MME) degree.
Tailored to meet the needs of working music educators, this flexible, hybrid graduate program combines online asynchronous coursework during the fall and spring semesters with in-person, intensive sessions on select weekends over the summer. The 32-credit program is competitively priced at $500 per credit.
Designed for individuals with a bachelor’s degree in music, the MME program equips educators with advanced skills to harness the power of music in teaching, advocacy, healing, and worship. Graduates will be empowered to enrich their own lives, inspire students, and elevate the cultural and spiritual significance of music within their communities.
In response to the increasing need for social and emotional support in PK-12 education, the curriculum integrates an endorsement of social, emotional, and behavioral wellness. This specialized training provides music educators with strategies to support students’ personal and emotional growth, guiding educators on how to present material, manage classroom behavior, and create a positive learning environment.
Additionally, students in the MME program who want to become certified teachers may pursue their PK-12 Music Education certification through a personalized advising plan.
“Music educators enrich the lives of their students and communities while promoting the art of music as a creative and cultural force in society,” stated Adrian Smith, Coordinator of Music Education at Immaculata. “Through the integration of musicianship, technology, cultural insight, and social-emotional learning, this new program empowers teachers to become leaders in community building, divergent problem-solving, and effective decision-making.”
Immaculata’s long tradition of graduating music majors stems from its earliest beginnings. Currently, the University offers bachelor’s degrees in music, music education, and music therapy along with master’s degrees in music therapy and now music education.
