Crop’s Fresh Marketplace in Downingtown was recently named the Best Family-Owned Grocery Store in the Mid-Atlantic region, reports Drew Anderson for Fox 29 Philadelphia.

“We have a lot of great partners, we have a big wholesale partner, a family-owned business from Connecticut, that we pull a lot of products from and that gives us the buying power to put sales prices and specials on our products,” said owner Chad Cropper. “Then, we also work with over 150 local vendors around the tri-state area to bring products to the store.”

Crop’s Fresh Marketplace features local produce, cheese, and meats from different farms around Chester County. They stock a variety of grass-fed beef products from Buck Run Farm, which is in Coatesville. They’re also known for their homemade donuts.

Chad’s father hand-writes every sign in the store with a marker each week. “Every week, he puts up our deli special signs for our customers to see. It’s kind of an old-school touch, but it really conveys our sale pricing to our customers well,” Cropper said.

They also smoke their meats in-house with their special smoker, which is a unique feature for a grocery store.

Crop’s Fresh Marketplace is located at 1257 Horseshoe Pike in Downingtown.
