After Years of Running Downingtown, Mayor Phil Dague to Step Down
Mayor Phil Dague of Downingtown has announced he will not seek a second term, with his tenure ending in late 2025, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.
Having served on the Borough Council since 2014 and as mayor since 2020, Dague expressed mixed emotions about his decision, calling his time as mayor an “honor.”
Some of his accomplishments included his work on the Flood Advisory Committee, Downingtown Strong, and developments like the River Station project, which added a trail connecting Johnsontown to nearby apartments. Additionally, he navigated the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, making difficult decisions such as temporarily closing outdoor sports.
“I will continue to fulfill the oath that I made to the people of Downingtown every day for the remainder of my time as mayor,” he said. “Thank you, Downingtown.”
Dague recently retired from UPS and has been growing his real estate business with Berkshire Hathaway. He is eager to focus more on that work but remains active in the community to prep for local events like the tree lighting and Christmas parade.
He noted there are “good people waiting in the wings” for when the November 2025 election comes around.
