This Covered Bridge in New Hope Among Local Creepy Places to Visit Ahead of Halloween
Van Sandt Covered Bridge in New Hope is one of the creepiest places in the tri-state area you can visit ahead of Halloween to get your dose of spooky, reports Dan Sheridan for 6abc.
Many believe the bridge is haunted by several spirits, one of them a woman whose cries can be heard at night.
Van Sandt Covered Bridge was constructed in 1875 as the last original covered bridge built by the county.
Since then, it has become the focus of the Cry Baby Bridge legend.
“It’s an urban folk myth about a woman who was distraught,” said Scott Bomboy from the Bucks County Covered Bridge Society. “She was on the covered bridge, she threw her baby off the bridge, and then she hanged herself inside the bridge.”
There are other instances of people dying here. In the 1910s, there was a fatal accident when the bridge deck collapsed while a truck with two men was crossing.
For decades, people have been reporting hearing strange sounds at night, which some explain as animals from neighboring farms. Others remain convinced it is haunted.
