Bill Mann, Chief Information Security Officer for the Borough of West Chester, strives to teach everyone how to best protect themselves against cyber criminals, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News

Since October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Mann issues online security updates every weekday, although he’s constantly working year-round to keep others information safe online.

In his first video for this year, Mann covered passwords, stating that passwords should be unique, at least 12 characters long, and should not contain any identifying features, such as names and addresses.

Mann has done his October weekday videos since 2020, with this year’s theme being “Secure Our World.”

The lessons, which are posted to YouTube, are free and will focus on topics such as password management, multi-factor authentication, phishing, and why software updates are important.

“Organizations in the public sector, including education, health and local governments are especially suspect able to cyber-attacks, that if undefended can lead to financial loss, such as ransomware, down time, liability risk, credibility loss and very often, even the need to rebuild infrastructures.”

Mann is passionate about cybersecurity and takes it seriously, noting how dangerous cybercriminals can be.
