With Its 50th Anniversary Approaching, People’s Light Sees Upcoming Season as One Big Party

A recent performance "Somewhere Over the Border" from August at People's Light.

With People’s Light approaching its 50th anniversary, the Malvern theater company is approaching the upcoming season as one big party, writes Chris Compendio for Philly Voice

The season will consist of five productions and many social events, all of them demonstrating the company’s position as a key hub for live arts and community engagement.

“We know our audiences want to feel that they are gathering and having events that uplift,” said People’s Light Artistic Director Zak Berkman. “So a lot of what the season is focusing on is how that can happen in very nourishing and true to People’s Light ways.”

The season will start with an intimate musical The Porch on Windy Hill. The three-theater production with Merrimack Repertory Theatre and Weston Theater Company will feature at People’s Light from Sept. 18 to Oct. 13.

Other shows coming next season include Peter Panto: A Musical Panto, A Raisin in the Sun, and Birthday Candles. Little Shop of Horrors will close out the season.

Among the planned events, the theater company will bring back ‘Flight Nights’, which offer audience members the chance to watch a “flight” of short provocative plays as they enjoy a drink flight.
