Despite receiving many offers, some owners of tiny homes on million-dollar properties in ritzy Jersey Shore towns have no intention of selling, write Erin McCarthy and Ariana Perez-Castells for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Flowertown resident Linda Galer’s family has owned a tiny red cottage on a Stone Harbor street for six decades. They paid $6,000 for the property in 1960. Developers have since capitalized on real estate. Large, multi-story homes surround her property.

The median value of homes sold on Seven Mile Island – which is comprised of Avalon and Stone Harbor along the Jersey Shore- has been stable at around $4 million for he last year.

An Avalon 1960s home that was bought for $3.75 million in 2021 was replaced with new construction, which was listed on the market for $10.8 million in July.

The tiny cottage is home to Galer. Even though it’s now valued at over $2 million, the home isn’t worth selling.

“It’s like frozen in time,” she said. “Even when we’re sitting on the porch, I still feel like it’s years and years ago.”
