17-year-old Zara Samdani created a nonprofit, Lemons Learn, where she and other tutors help educate girls all over the world.

When Zara Samdani visited her parent’s home country of Pakistan with a nonprofit organization, she noticed many young girls were out selling lemons, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6ABC.

“I was especially struck when I was meeting girls around my age, who told me that even though Pakistan is a progressive country, they still don’t have a lot of educational resources,” she said.

This experience inspired Samdani, a 17-year-old student at Conestoga High School in Berwyn, to start her own nonprofit.

The nonprofit, called Lemons Learn, gives girls who live in extremely underserved areas worldwide access to education. Lemons Learn offers online tutoring services, focusing on both academics and life skills. Samdani elicited the help of her siblings and friends to get the nonprofit going.

Today, Lemons Learn has 42 tutors and educates 80 students across 7 countries.

“It’s absolutely rewarding to know that I and the people around me are making such a big impact on these girl’s lives,” Samdani said.

They are also holding a Back-to-School drive to help those in need.
