Collingdale’s Bulk Foods Delco Latches on to Dubai Chocolate Bar Craze
A new chocolate bar from Dubai is all the rage on TikTok and it’s putting pressure on one Delaware County company to keep up with demand, writes Jesse Bunch for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The creamy, pistachio butter-filled bar has a crunch effect delivered by a toasted, shredded phyllo. It comes from an Emirates-based chocolatier.
Justin West, owner of the Collingdale-based Bulk Foods Delco, knew he had to stock the gooey, green “almost gross looking” chocolate bar.
“I love that kind of stuff, finding things that people can’t get their hands on and being able to provide it,” said West.
In just days, Bulk Foods Delco had more than $2,000 worth of preorders for the unique treat.
West is meeting demand by collaborating with New Jersey baker Alexandra Benas, owner of The Cake Boutique, who is making her own Dubai chocolate bars.
West is one of Benas’s top customers.
Things kicked up this summer after an Emirates-based TikToker posted a video in December of someone eating the candy bar. The video has gone on to accumulate 70 million views.
The bars aren’t cheap, however.
West sells his for $15. Amazon users can find them selling from $12 to $40.
