Four major bridges in the Philadelphia area are expected to see toll increases as soon as next month, according to a staff report from the WHYY.

Last week, the Delaware River Port Authority’s Finance Committee moved forward with its new toll schedule.

The plan, which will be voted on by the Board of Commissioners on Jul. 17, includes increases in passenger vehicle tolls from $5 to $6 for motorists crossing the Delaware River via the Ben Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry, and Betsy Ross bridges.

The earliest these potential changes would take effect is Aug. 1.

According to officials, the increase is needed to be able to keep up with aging infrastructure and security.

If approved, this would represent the first toll hike in 13 years.
