Narberth Native, Lower Merion High School Grad Lizzy McAlpine Talks Life, Music Career, and Future
Lizzy McAlpine is a critically acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia Magazine.
Her new album, Older, is getting rave reviews and she will soon play two sets at The Met Philadelphia right after a stint at Radio City Music Hall.
The Narberth native started writing music at 12 years old.
“Back then, I wanted to be on Broadway. Never thought even once about touring with my own songs,” said McAlpine.
When she was a student at Lower Merion High School, she fully immersed herself within the musical scene. McAlpine was in the general choir, auditioned and was accepted into the chamber choir, and also did a cappella, theater.
More than a decade later, now 24 years old, McAlpine still sees Broadway as a bucket-list item.
“Post-this tour, I want to work on other people’s art,” she said. “I don’t want to be writing anymore. This process is difficult for me. I need space and time to live my life and experience things, so I can write about stuff. I have nothing to write about now.”
For McAlpine, it’s about being true to herself and making art.
