Jeffrey Lurie May Sell a Stake of the Philadelphia Eagles
Jeffrey Lurie is reportedly exploring the possibility of selling a minority stake in the Philadelphia Eagles, writes Gillian Tan for Bloomberg.
To this end, he is working with BDT & MSD Partners to gauge interest from potential suitors. The team may be valued at more than $7.5 billion in any transaction. That number would represent a multiple of roughly 11 times revenue and a record price tag for an NFL team.
While the size of the minority stake has not been determined, interested parties have been told there will not be a path to a controlling stake. Talks are still at an early stage, and there is the possibility that no deal is reached.
Lurie has controlled the Eagles franchise since May 1994, when he acquired the team from Norman Braman for $185 million, a record for a sports franchise at the time.
His net worth is $5.4 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
The Eagles went on to win its first Super Bowl in 2018, beating the New England Patriots.
