Mother-Son Duo Spreads Autism Awareness Through Inspirational Clothing Line
Grayson Arbutina, an 11-year-old with autism, has created a clothing line alongside his mother to help inspire people with autism to use their voices any way they can, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6ABC.
Grayson was diagnosed with autism at 2-years-old and uses an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device to communicate with others.
In April, Grayson’s mother Kara Somers started an Etsy shop called “Grayson Says Designs.” The shop features t-shirts and other clothing items with sayings inspired by Grayson’s speaking device. A popular message is “Say it any way you can.”
The mother-son team displayed their designs at The Timothy School’s 2nd Annual Community Day, featuring food and games.
The Timothy School in Berwyn, where Arbutina is a student, is a school designed to help children with autism succeed. Today, there are 70 students at The Timothy School.
“It’s important for everyone to have a voice, whether it’s verbal, sign language, and especially for our kids who use these devices.” Somers said.
