Freedom Village at Brandywine Awards 15 Scholarships to Employees
Freedom Village at Brandywine hosted its 18th annual awards ceremony in the Greg Welch Auditorium on the Freedom Village campus, where 15 Freedom Village employees received college-level scholarships.
Completely funded and run by the Freedom Village residents, this ceremony is a long-standing tradition for the community to reward deserving employees with scholarships through the Freedom Village Brandywine Scholarship Fund to pursue further education.
Although residents raise money all year long, every year an annual fundraising campaign is held for one final push to raise as much money as possible.
During this year’s campaign, which ran from January 15 to March 31, fundraising efforts included an on-campus bocce tournament, a pancake breakfast, and a donut sale in which 300 donuts were sold in 25 minutes.
“Receiving the Freedom Village Brandywine Scholarship is truly a blessing and an opportunity that will change my life forever,” said Emma Auker, scholarship recipient and server at Freedom Village. “I’m incredibly grateful for all of the residents who have made this possible.”
“This initiative demonstrates how much deeper the term ‘community’ goes for us at Freedom Village,” said Gail Woods, a resident of Freedom Village and president of the scholarship fund. “The residents’ generosity and commitment to education have made a significant impact on the lives of our scholarship recipients for the last 18 years, and we look forward to many more.”
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, candidates must have worked at the community throughout the past year and provided a transcript of current grades, as well as three letters of recommendation, including one from their immediate supervisor at the community.
The Freedom Village Brandywine Scholarship Fund, Inc., a 501 C3 is supported by tax-deductible contributions from Freedom Village residents and their friends and family members.
