Derrick Arnold and Sofia Montgomery, of Downingtown, were joined by their closest family and friends for a perfect destination wedding in the Dominican Republic, writes Gina Lizzo for the Main Line Today.
The couple met at The Social Lounge in West Chester for their first date in 2019 and things immediately got interesting.
“I ordered a fruity martini—she got straight whiskey,” recalled Derrick, who is a financial advisor.
The evening went well and six months later, the couple moved in together in Downingtown.
When Derrick proposed, they considered all available options, from a courthouse elopement to a truly flashy event.
“We toured a venue in Kutztown and thought it was too expensive,” said Sophia, a trauma therapist.
In the end, they chose a destination wedding.
“If we were going to spend the money, we might as well get a whole vacation out of it,” said Derrick. “Instead of just one day, we got to celebrate over an entire week with our friends and family.”
They traveled to the Excellence El Carmen in Punta Cana for a wedding that was organized mostly over email and phone.
Their oceanic ceremony completely fulfilled both of their dreams. Afterward, guests moved to a rooftop reception to enjoy great food and views.
