Vintage Beauty Abounds at D.L. George Historic Motorcars in Cochranville
D.L. George Historic Motorcars in Cochranville is a full-service restoration haven for vintage European cars from prewar and early postwar eras, writes J.F. Pirro for The Hunt Magazine.
The shop, housed in a nondescript former mushroom house, is always filled with sports and racing vehicles owned by the most demanding collectors in the world. The cars can be seen exhibited at Pebble Beach, Villa d’Este, and other Concours events, as well as when they are raced at esteemed tracks such as Lime Rock and Laguna Seca.
The 14,000-square-foot facility almost serves as a full-scale museum.
The business was originally started in Frazer by David L. George II in 1990 with just six local clients. One of them was the late Ray Carr, an extravagant collector from Chester Springs. Nowadays, the shop gets cars from 40 to 50 clients from all over the world, each of them has an average value of $1 million.
The restorations can sometimes last for several years.
“Nothing’s here for a day,” said George.
He added that a typical restoration usually takes between 4,000 and 6,000 hours.
