A New Sushi Speakeasy Opens in Fishtown, Replacing a Former Sushi Bar

Sushi By Bou opened in Fishtown on May 10.

Sushi By Bou, the Omakase sushi restaurant that first made a name for itself in New York City, is opening its first Philadelphia location in Fishtown, writes Jason Sheehan for Philadelphia Magazine.

SimpleVenue and Glu Hospitality are joining forces to open the brand-new omakase sushi speakeasy in the same location they previously opened another sushi restaurant, Sushi Suite.

It is located behind Izakaya Fishtown.

The theme for Sushi By Bou is ‘90s hip-hop. Specifically, expect to see big murals, graffiti and vinyl on the walls, in addition to a throwback soundtrack that pays tribute to some of Philly’s biggest hip-hop icons.

The menu is a 12-course, 60-minute omakase experience for $60. There is also booze, with sake and cocktail pairings.

If you prefer something fancier, you can try the upgraded 17-course option for $125, which includes five extra seasonal courses.

Compared to its predecessor Sushi Suite, Sushi By Bou provides a pared-down version of the omakase experience meant to get people in and out quicker at a lower price point.

Sushi Suite, on the other hand, will be moving to a new and larger location in Center City later this summer.
