Recently, Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding visited the Stroud Water Research Center in Avondale with local farmer Jamie Hicks to review farming practices, according to a report from Franklin County Free Press.

Redding received a tour by Dr. Dave Arscott and Matthew Ehrhart of the center to view Hicks‘ work in a watershed-scale experiment.

The Stroud Water Research Center is focused on improving water and soil quality, which will drive dedication to suitability and better agriculture practices. There is also research that takes place in small watersheds in the state to monitor water quality and sediment issues.

Ehrhart highlights the importance of this research due to how it impacts food supply, as well as rivers and streams, when it comes to farming.

In 2022, the center was awarded a $85,000 research grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Redding also discussed a $1.5 million which would go directly towards conservation research in 2024-25.

These grants maintain the activity at the center to continue supporting resources to find solutions for disease control, climate change, pollination issues, and more.
