Beth Harper Briglia, a Community Philanthropist, Honored with 2024 Rebecca Lukens Award
Beth Harper Briglia has recently been named the 18th recipient of the 2024 Rebecca Lukens Award, writes staff for The Daily Local News.
The annual award is presented by the National Iron & Steel Heritage Museum. Briglia is recognized as a longtime philanthropic advisor and community volunteer.
The award is named after the first female industrialist and former owner of Lukens Steel Co., Rebecca Lukens. Recipients are selected by a community-based committee and chosen for their leadership qualities, much like Lukens.
“Beth’s list of accomplishments and accolades is impressive,” Scott Huston, descendant of Lukens and the NISHM’s board president, said. “There was no such thing as the non-profit or philanthropic sector in Rebecca’s time, but the three core values we always mention — Rebecca as a visionary, a doer, and a strategic leader — are qualities that Beth Briglia has also brought to her work in guiding others in philanthropy.”
Briglia, who previously worked as the philanthropic advisor for the Chester County Community Foundation for twenty years, strengthened her community through her people-driven approach. Her favorite part of her work was helping people and businesses engage with their community through “intentional philanthropy.”
She now works as an independent philanthropic advisor.
“I was inspired by her story and what she did,” Briglia said of Rebecca, “I was especially taken with the fact that she wanted to have her father’s legacy as founder of the steel mill to live on and she worked to ensure that the mill workers were well served.”
