Olga Sorzano, of Phoenixville, is grieving the loss of seven World Central Kitchen volunteers who were killed in an airstrike in Gaza last week, writes Natasha Brown for CBS News Philadelphia

The owner of Baba’s Brew, a local kombucha brewing company, is a former World Central Kitchen volunteer herself. She helped the organization in 2022 during the worst days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

While she was helping bring humanitarian aid into a conflict zone, the native of southern Siberia saw firsthand how important it is to provide basic life-sustaining necessities.

“I know that giving them a bowl of hot soup is not gonna solve their problems, but it could solve bringing them sustenance for that moment,” she said.

Sorzano is still maintaining the friendships she made with other volunteers during missions with World Central Kitchen

As she is grieving for the families of those killed in Gaza, she hopes their legacy will continue to live on through their passion for making a difference.

For the rest of the year, Sorzano plans on donating part of the proceeds from her cooking classes to World Central Kitchen.
