On April 8, Chester County residents can head to Hibernia County Park in Coatesville for an eclipse viewing event.

Chester County residents who would like to enjoy the near total solar eclipse on April 8 with other people can head to Hibernia County Park in Coatesville, writes Kenny Cooper for the WHYY.

Chester County Library System and the county’s Department of Parks and Preservation have joined forces with Chester County Astronomical Society and Timmy Telescope Solar Astronomy Education to organize an eclipse viewing event at the park.

“We’re running our program from the time that eclipse starts until the time it is over,” said Pam Marquette, program coordinator for the Chester County Library System.

Hibernia Park will host a slew of activities from 2 PM to 4:30 PM, such as the GLOBE Observer data collection program, sun salutation yoga, and moon salutation yoga.

Telescopes outfitted with solar filters will also be available so that people can safely view the sun while the eclipse is unfolding.

“People can come and pick up a solar eclipse log so they can keep track of the eclipse as it’s happening,” said Marquette. “There’ll be coloring sheets for kids. They’ll be able to make an eclipse model.”
