Paoli Hospital Employees Come Together to Help Fight Food Insecurity in Coatesville
Paoli Hospital employee, Dan Roberts, gathered his co-workers and other volunteers to help serve the community outside of the hospital, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6ABC.
From there, Roberts and his group of dedicated volunteers started a grassroots effort to help feed those in need in Chester County.
Roberts has brought meals to the Community Youth and Women’s Alliance (CYWA) for the past 16 years, monthly. He brings together his co-workers and friends to help. There’s no formal name or website for his food service; he utilizes word-of-mouth and sign-up sheets at the hospital for distribution.
“I know what it’s like to be hungry,” said Verlinda Ross, a Coatesville resident. “I like coming here because it’s peaceful, it’s helpful, and I’m thankful for the volunteers who give their time to help us.”
CWYA started out as shelter for homeless women and children; today they’ve expanded to include drug and rehab resources, as well as providing a family center.
“If you have a little time to give – it doesn’t have to be with us, but it’s always good to give back. Especially in these times.” Roberts said.
