Every other year, Church Farm School recognizes the best in athletics and its values of sportsmanship, teamwork, and excellence through its Hall of Athletic Honor.

This year, CFS will induct three men — Micheal Eric, Class of 2007; Jason Kittlesen, Class of 1991; and the late coach Richard Lunardi — into its Hall of Athletic Honor at the Alumni Reunion Dinner on Saturday, May 11.

With no prior competitive basketball experience, Eric moved to the United States for high school. CFS basketball coach Marc Turner mentored Eric, who led the Griffins to multiple championships and earned all-area honors. He continued his career at Temple University and has since played professionally in Greece, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Russia, and South Korea. He also played in both the NBA Summer League and NBA G League.

Kittlesen was an athlete who excelled in the many sports he played at CFS, particularly wrestling. After graduation, he utilized the leadership skills he developed at CFS in the U.S. Army, where he served more than 20 years and reached the rank of major. Currently transitioning back to civilian life, Kittlesen plans to work in the education field with veterans, their families, and future service members.

Lunardi spent 31 years at CFS after arriving as a guidance counselor in 1981. His role changed many times throughout his years of service, as he also spent time as a teacher and administrator. Lunardi was also coach of the cross-country and lower-school basketball teams and assisted with the baseball teams for more than 10 years. When he was not cheering on the Griffins at both home and away games, he could be found running the scorer’s table for basketball and wrestling.

After a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer, Lunardi died in 2013, having made a positive impact in the lives of countless students.
