The Chadds Ford band Jellyroll performed at the White House in 2008, Now it is suing country singer Jelly Roll over a trademark violation.

A Chadds Ford wedding band that goes by the name of Jellyroll is suing country artist Jelly Roll for a trademark infringement, writes Joe Brandt for CBS News Philadelphia.

The local band claims they’ve gone by the name Jellyroll years before the CMT Award winner.

Jellyroll , a band of seven to eight musicians, has been performing since the 1980s and claims in the suit they’ve been hurt by singer Jelly Roll’s celebrity rise.  The former rapper found success after turning to country music.

Jellyroll’s federal civil lawsuit, filed in Philadelphia, alleges violation of their trademark, harm to their brand and “unfair competition.”

Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, won Video of the Year, Male Video of the Year and Performance of the Year at the 2024 CMT Awards.

The band Jellyroll claims their ability to surface on Google search results was hurt by Jelly Roll’s rise in popularity and that marketing the country artist, particularly in the northeast U.S., is causing confusion.

It received a trademark registration on Aug. 17, 2010 that was renewed in December 2019.

A request by CBS News Philadelphia for comment from country artist Jelly Roll’s attorney was not immediately returned.
